Traveling light through Ecuador
I travel light, but for my one month trip to Ecuador, I decided to go super light. I would be traveling through the Andes by public bus and wanted to have my suitcase in my possession at all times and not in the luggage compartment under the bus. This would be a challenge as I would spend a week on a live-aboard in the Galapagos and three weeks traveling the high mountains of the Andes. I needed clothing for warm and cool weather.
My sister-in-law showed me her small carry on case by Lucas, and I ordered one, determined I would get everything I needed for the month into this small bag. And I did.
The boat provided snorkeling gear, and I could rent a wet suit if needed. No formal meals on board, so clothing requirements were minimal, 2 swimming suits, water shoes, shorts and tops. Clothing for the Andes was a challenge as I was staying in nice hotels and going out to restaurants. While Ecuador is not formal, I wanted to look presentable and still be ready to hike a mountain. I opted not to take hiking boots, but sturdy sneakers. My second pair of shoes were comfortable sandels.
I took a hat, gloves, and scarf for cooler weather. My standard “travel uniform” of a black pair of below the knee pants and long vest, both from Anatomie, a company that specializes in travel clothing for women served me well. With a long sleeved top, knee length wool socks, and light weight down jacket, I was prepared.
